Amira is a filmmaker, photographer, and organizer from Jamaica, Queens. Since the age of 12, she has explored play-writing and filmmaking, by co-writing, co-directing and co-choreographing a 90 minute musical for her middle school to save a failing drama program. Finding her voice in filmmaking and creative photography, Amira achieved a BFA in Film and Television Production at NYU Tisch. In her time at NYU, Amira has dedicated herself to community and mutual aid principles, serving as the Director of Mentorship for Femmes in Film, a Tisch club founded in developing and fostering community for femme and non-binary creatives. She also served as the President of the Black Student Council, a council dedicated to empowering and advocating for the black tisch community. Her directing work is driven by a passion for exploring untold perspectives in experimental ways and creating immersive experiences that forge unexpected connections. Amira’s keenness for detail helps her highlight the beauty from the mundane, overlooked parts of our life. When not directing or writing, she can be found producing, designing, gaffing and shooting both NYU Tisch thesis films and independent projects. Her work is edgy, surrealist, and thrilling, and brings an imaginative, introspective twist that heightens ordinary experiences.
