Research project on The influence of the circadian clock on intestinal epithelial cell function , under the supervision of Dr. Julie Gibbs, Professor, University of Manchester, AV Hill, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. The project used a transgenic mouse line lacking the core clock gene Rev-erb alpha in IECs (Villin-Rev-erb alpha -/-) and assessing the consequence of this manipulation on intestinal epithelial cell function, and effects of disease progression and inflammation. Analytical Techniques of interest include QPCR, ELISA and histology to assess gene expression, barrier permeability and barrier integrity and flow cytometry and QPCR to access disease progression and severity in response to induced inflammation.Achievements: Completed the project, anlaysed the data with required statistics and defended a 15,000 word thesis accumulating an overall 71% final grade on the masters thesis.
