Teach For Malaysia (TFM) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that is enlisting Malaysia’s most promising leaders in ending education inequity. I joined TFM as their vision of having all students in Malaysia attaining quality education resonated well with me. The Fellowship experience involves a 2 year teaching stint in a high-need school, continuous professional leadership development with TFM workshops and seminars and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education being pursued throughout the period.It was an eye-opening and humbling experience for me as I taught over 250 rural students English and History, working alongside the teaching community of my school and the Ministry of Education. Together we strive to develop and nurture young talents by providing them a holistic education. The challenges involved has certainly allowed me to reflect on my personal growth and hone competencies for my professional development.Some notable achievements include:• Contributing to the increase of SPM English passing rate of 76 % (2013) to 81 % (2014) in SMK Tengku Menteri, Perak. Restructured the English scheme of work, incorporating structured grammar and writing modules tailored for students with low proficiency levels.• Leading a team of 4 students in the National History Quiz competition. First time in school history to represent Perak in a co-academic competition. Attained 5th place in the 2014 National Level and successfully defended the Perak state championship in 2015.• Acquiring placements for 6 rugby players to continue their studies and sports development in Bandar Penawar Sports School and Arau Vocational College.• Representing the 2014 Fellowship Cohort through the 6-member Fellowship Advisory Board in a 1-year term, improving communication lines between the organisation and the Fellows.
