Technology Policy Manager (Ai And Online Safety)
CurrentAs the UKs online safety regulator, Ofcom plays a thought leadership role in defining safer recommender systems. Identifying emerging trends and anticipating the ethical challenges, I develop technical and scientifically sound solutions to regulation of novel technologies such as large-scale recommendation systems. My role at Ofcom is to oversee the development of national regulations on recommender systems, ensuring that all policy products are technically sound, practicable, and legible as regulations. Specifically, I have lead the development of 4 new codes of practice that are designed to ensure regulated services design and deploy recommender systems (i.e. social media algorithms) responsibly. My work also includes advancing Ofcom’s understanding of AI governance and accountability. In particular, I am responsible for mapping across the latest and critical technical insights into model evaluations into practically relevant and adaptable mechanisms that can be used in assuring powerful AI models. This work helps bridge the critical space between computer science and regulatory effectiveness.
