Smart Materials and Structures Lab -Conducted literature survey on active materials (shape memory alloys, piezoelectric actuators and electroactive polymers) as potential candidates as actuation technology for reconfigurable tactile surfaces. -Built and characterized different designs of shape memory alloy actuators, such as conical shape memory alloy springs, to create an active tactile surface- Designed & conducted experiments to gather force displacement data of shape memory alloy springs- Modeled shape memory alloy conical springs in Matlab to validate experimental resultsCourse Projects-Developed a 2D finite element code in Matlab; - Demonstrated the effect of relief holes and relief notches on stress concentration using finite element analysis in ANSYS.

• Completed concurrent design projects on ‘Formation Isolation Valves (FIVs)’ with the design teams in Schlumberger Reservoir Completions Technology Center, Houston, USA, which involved design, analysis and development of large FIV parts and assemblies.• Performed finite element analysis (Pro/MECHANICA) on parts to identify stress concentration areas and improved designs based on the results.• Performed tolerance stack-up analysis using Mathcad on large tool assemblies.• Lead and participated in technical design reviews of rapid response projects.• Implemented technical and drawing standards (ASME Y14.41) as a member of the ‘Standards’ team at the center, made standards to be followed while making large Pro/ENGINEER assemblies and drawings.

• Rationalized ‘Completions Accessories’ using tolerance stack-up analysis and pressure calculations.• Converted and updated old manual drawings in ‘Down-hole Testing Segment’ to Pro/ENGINEER format and up to current technical standards and maintained the database of part and assembly drawings.
