State-of-the-art object grasping methods rely on depth sensing to plan robust grasps, but commercially available depth sensors fail to detect transparent and specular objects. Developed a method for learning a multi-modal perception model by bootstrapping from an existing uni-modal model. This transfer learning approach requires only a pre-existing uni-modal grasping model and paired multi-modal image data for training, foregoing the need for ground-truth grasp success labels nor real grasp attempts. Our experiments demonstrate that our approach is able to grasp transparent and reflective objects with high reliability.The paper has been accepted into International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2020) and published in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L).

There are a lot of studies in the field of road safety that require data to analyze and understand driving behaviour that causes accidents. The purpose of this research project was to build an open-source framework for a 3D road traffic simulator that can feed in realistic data to learning systems.Developed a plug and play package that can be used in Unreal Engine 4 to create a 3D traffic simulator having the capability to introduce prescribed traffic behaviour along with an independent user controlled agent. This uses traffic models from SUMO, a well known open-source 2D simulator of traffic flow and re-renders a 3D simulation environment from its logs.Then data from this simulation is then extracted in various forms from geo-spatial cordite logs to depth images of each frame. This can be leveraged in tandem with real world data for trainingnovel learning algorithms and may help improve the existing ones.
