About Amit Kapadia

Amit is the Founder and Executive Director of The Unforgotten, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity that provides direct humanitarian and emergency relief to wastepickers and other vulnerable, often-overlooked populations worldwide with zero overhead. We save hungry children and their families from eating trash and living in garbage dumps around the world. We provide emergency relief: clean food, water, medicine, shelter. We empower children with an education. Help us end the cycle of hunger and poverty for wastepickers.Amit is also the President of the Council of Organizations of the United Nations Association and leads the Council in providing humanitarian relief in UN field operations. Our life saving emergency projects provide services in: 1 - Water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), 2 - Food security, 3 - Shelter, and 4 - Health. Longer-term projects in UN Refugee camps include education, income generation and women’s empowerment. The Council of Organizations was created to advise the United States Delegation To The United Nations Conference On International Organization (UNCIO) in 1945, San Francisco, and has been providing advice ever since.In addition to managing The Unforgotten and The Council of Organizations, Amit has worked for the US federal government for 25 years. He has overseen environmental projects for the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Geological Survey, and the US Navy. Amit holds a MA in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a MA in International Relations from George Washington University, and a BS in engineering from the University of Virginia.
