I am a fully technically qualified former HMRC Inspector of Taxes, with significant high quality private sector experience too.I am accomplished in representing entrepreneurs and businesses in serious HMRC tax investigations and intrusive enquiries, where historic issues need to be understood intimately and regularised commercially. This involves risk assessing transactions and structures; challenging processes, procedures and approaches; handling HMRC expertly via correspondence (with seasoned presentational skills); and at face to face meetings (providing that much needed professional and expert buffer for clients). My clients include: entrepreneurs growing their businesses and large established privately owned businesses looking for an independent specialist's support.I led a boutique firm's 'Tax Investigations' practice in London for 3 years prior to Pure Tax, and Grant Thornton's London practice for 3 years prior to that.I am an experienced senior ex Tax Investigator, having spent almost 11 years working at HMRC. I spent most of my HMRC career working in Specialist Investigations (now Fraud Investigation Service) where I developed my ‘operational’ skillset. In the main I conducted in-depth and intrusive COP9 tax fraud investigations & COP8 tax investigations, and facilitated complex ‘offshore tax’ disclosures. It goes without say that I understand HMRC's evolving policies and processes, how investigators identify and approach risks and third parties for information in complex and intrusive investigations. Having also been Head of HMRC's Offshore/LDF Disclosures team in London, I am well placed to advise clients about the significant records available to HMRC and increasing risk of being picked up by them.
