Lexisnexis Ohio Eminent Scholar
Prof. Sheth holds the endowed faculty position created by the Ohio Board of Regents. He leads research in Artificial Intelligence, Physical/IoT-Cyber/Web-Social Big & Smart Data, and their applications in health and other fields through Kno.e.sis (http://knoesis.org) which he founded when he moved to Wright State University (WSU). He is a professor in the Comp. Sc & Engg and Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Ph.D. program, with a courtesy appointment in the Dept of Population and Public Health Sciences in the School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the IEEE and the AAAI. With 40+K in citations, he has been among the top 100 computer scientists worldwide based on the h-index (currently 102).Prof. Sheth has been a principal investigator of competitive research grants totaling over $27 million from federal agencies (incl 10 from NIH and 25+ from NSF) as well as industry. During his first 10 years at WUS, his research grants funded more than 300 sem/qtr (1036 mo) of GRA support. His own annual research expenditures have averaged well over $1 million (directly supporting ~25 PhD/MS thesis students, post-docs, software engineers) and up to $2million for the Kno.e.sis Center.Additional $6+ million in support has enabled his R&D and tech commercialization efforts enabling Prof. Sheth to found 3 startups based on licensing technology resulting his university research with his students. The latest of this is Cognovi Labs (2016), which describes itself as a “fusion of behavioral science and AI.” For this, Sheth was named runner-up of the 2017 Technology Commercialization Award by Ohio Faculty Council for exceptional research discoveries and the role they have played in supporting the translation of those discoveries into marketable products and services. In 2010, Sheth received the Trustees Award for Faculty Excellence, the highest award given by the university that honors those who serve as the most outstanding of role models for all faculty.
Executive Director
Information to Meaning, Insight to Action...Ohio Centers of Excellence are nationally recognized academic programs that generate world-class research and help draw talent and investment to the state. Kno.e.sis performs research in semantic-cognitive-perceptual computing, physical cyber-social computing, including Semantic Web, social, services, sensor, mobile and cloud computing and other Web 3.0 topics, with the purpose of accelerating a move from the information age to the meaning age. As an Ohio Center of Excellence in BioHealth Innovation, it has extensive research in clinical and biomedical applications. With 15 faculty members from Computer Science & Engineer, Biomedical Sciences, Health Care, and Cognitive Sciences, it engages in extensive multidisciplinary and multi-institutional research , and achieves regional economic impact through extensive industry interactions, world-class workforce development and technology commercialization. It has over 80 researchers, with 60+ funded students and postdocs. Kno.e.sis ranks among the top organization in WWW [1][2] . Kno.e.sis was founded by Prof. Sheth in January 2007, and was declared an Ohio Center of Excellence in January 2010. He served as its founding director until July 2013, when he was appointed as the Executive Director, with further expansion of his duties and oversight. In Summer 2016, the center has over $11 million in active external funding - all its PhD students are funded, ~10MS students are funded and there are many opportunities for BS students to participate in research, often with partial tuition and stipend support.[1] Sharing 2nd position among universities based on 5-year field impact; Microsoft Academic Search - Mar 2013: http://j.mp/www-Mar13[2] Among top 10 organization in WWW based on 10-year field impact: http://j.mp/www-Jun14 , http://j.mp/www-org-Jun15

Founder/Cob/Ceo/Cto/Chief Scientist
Founded (CEO/VOB) VC funded Semantic Web company Taalee, Inc (08/99-06/2001). Merged with Voquette, served as CTO & SrVP. Acquired by Protege Group, resulting in Semagix, served as CTO until its acquisition by SearchSpace (a Warbug Pinkus company) in April 2006 that resulted in Fortent. Served as Chief Scientists until October 2006, until getting read to move to Dayton,OH. Fortent became part of Actimize around 2008.In 2000, Taalee built MediaAnywhere, the first A/V Web Semantic Search and browsing. It had about 25 ontologies (News/Business, Sports, Entertainment, etc. ) and supported ontology based semantic (faceted) search, semantic browsing, semantic personalization, semantic targeting (advertisement), etc as is described in U.S. Patent #6311194, http://j.mp/SW-patent, 30 Oct. 2001 (filed 03/2000; 08/2000). Taalee merged to become Voquette in 2001 (its product SCORE supported semantic technology based media management), Semagix in 2004 (its product Semagix Freedom was a comprehensive platform for building semantic applications such as CIRAS focused on risk and compliance applications in Financial Services and Government), and then Fortent in 2006 (products included Know Your Customers).More information on our work around 2000 and how those ideas look in the context of recent advances in Semantic Search and Knowledge Graph, see: http://amitsheth.blogspot.sg/2014/09/15-years-of-semantic-search-and.html
Founder, President, Ceo
Infocosm, Inc. licensed METEOR distributed workflow management technology from University of Georgia developed by me and my colleagues/team and commercialized it. The commercial product called METEOR EApps (Enterprise Application Service) was a CORBA based version based on METEOR ORBWork. It sold licenses to companies such as Bellcore, MCC, Boeing. A METEOR WebWork, one of the first fully Web based workflow product was deployed for supporting applications such as Neonatal Workflow at Medical College of Georgia. [Infocosm, Inc is still active for occasional consulting, now focusing on Semantic Web related issues.
Member Of Technical Staff
METEOR (first research project on distributed workflow management): started 1991, operational use: 1994. InfoHarness (Faceted Web Search through metadata extracted from heterogeneous Web documents): started 1993, research paper: 1994, commercial product: 1994. Tried to convince Bellcore to make it an open Web search engine but business people could only think of traditional baby Bell market.
Staff Scientist
Worked on developing the Mermaid system - one of the earliest federated (distributed heterogeneous) database management systems (later commercialized by Marjorie Templeton as InterViso).
Student (Eee)
BE (Hons) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering; two internships at ISRO - developed memory extension board for Motorola 6800, and implemented Walsh-Hadamard function (my first programming exercise outside the classroom). At BITS, first programmed on IBM 1130, then on Physical Research LAboratory (Ahmedabad)'s IBM 360, and then Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad)'s PDP-11. Extracurricular activities in Solar Energy, developed interest in research, and presented three papers at national seminars/conferences (first a BITS, second at Hyderabad, third at IIT-Kanpur). Proud to get letter for reference from Dr. Yashpal, then Director of Space Application Center, ISRO, for my graduate studies applications.
