Kahea Pacheco (Kanaka 'Ōiwi) is a passionate advocate for Indigenous people’s rights, intersectional environmentalism, and climate justice that puts aloha ʻāina at the heart of solutions. She is a coach, writer, and Co-Director at Women’s Earth Alliance (WEA), a 16-year global initiative on a mission to protect the environment, end the climate crisis, and ensure a just, thriving world by empowering women's leadership. She joined WEA as a Legal Research Intern in 2011 after graduating from law school with a focus on Environmental and Federal Indian Law.WEA is dedicated to fortifying and dispersing solutions generated from the heart of communities—where people are grappling with our gravest challenges and drawing blueprints for a thriving future. WEA designs capacity-building trainings where women leaders benefit from access to technology, economic development, financing, mentorship and a global alliance. In some of the most environmentally threatened places in the world, WEA leaders are defending forests and rivers, saving threatened indigenous seeds, launching sustainable farms, conserving coral reefs, and protecting land rights. To date, more than 13,000 women have accessed WEA trainings, reaching an additional +13M people in 24 countries with their environmental and social innovations.During her time with WEA, Kahea facilitated legal advocacy partnerships for indigenous women-led environmental campaigns to protect lands, water, and sacred spaces through the North America Advocacy Network. She also co-led a partnership with the Native Youth Sexual Health Network to develop the “Violence on the Land, Violence on our Bodies” report and toolkit, which provides a critical perspective from Indigenous women and young people on the health and social impacts of extractive industry within their territories, as well as community-developed tools to address environmental violence.Kahea has a background in critical theory and human rights, and has lived and traveled around the world, including studying the shifting terrain of ethno-political conflict in Northern Ireland, and the ongoing impact of colonization on the construction of culture and identity in the Pacific. She serves on the Advisory Council for 1t.org—the trillion trees platform of the World Economic Forum—and Daughters for Earth, and is on the Board of Directors of Planet Women.

Co-Executive DirectorWomen'S Earth Alliance Jul 2020 - PresentBerkeley, California, UsWEA’s work goes to the heart of the solution to our generations’ most pressing environmental and climate concerns. Through grassroots capacity-building trainings, seed grants and networks, WEA is catalyzing the most powerful and abundant resource on earth: women’s leadership.Through our collaborative leadership model, this year we aim to leverage our 16 years of work at the intersection of climate, gender, racial, economic and social justice to scale our investments in grassroots women's leadership and solutions. We'll reach even more frontline women around the world with wraparound support—skills and tools, mentorship, funding, and a global alliance of peers—so that they can then reach more people with their climate solutions. 10k becomes 100k. 100k becomes 1 million. And 1 million becomes EVERYONE. We hope you'll join us in this movement to protect the earth, end the climate crisis, and ensure a just, thriving world for all of us. Because when women thrive, the earth thrives. -
Associate DirectorWomen'S Earth Alliance Feb 2019 - Jul 2020Berkeley, California, UsAs Associate Director at WEA, I collaborated with WEA’s Co-Directors to lead Operations, Communications and Development for the organization. In this capacity, I was responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive communications, social media and development strategy leveraging WEA’s content, community, goals and capacity to grow its overall reach and engagement. This included 1) re-designing a social media marketing calendar for existing social channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn), and onboarding and inspiring our team in its execution through compassionate leadership; 2) collaborating with business and organizational partners to develop and market co-branded social media content, campaigns and events; 3) overseeing the re-design of WEA’s website, as well as its ongoing maintenance and content updates; and more.A key component of this role was cultivating strong, friendly and authentic relationships with WEA’s dedicated community and donor base through relatable, positive and regular digital and hard copy communication and engagement. -
Programs & Operations ManagerWomen'S Earth Alliance Jan 2014 - Feb 2019Berkeley, California, UsAs WEA's Programs & Operations Manager, I held a broad range of responsibilities across the organization. In my Operations capacity, I ensured the smooth operation of all administrative, development, and organizational systems–including technology, event planning, grant writing and office management.A core responsibility of this role included implementing WEA's communications strategy across all digital outreach platforms–quarterly newsletters, website and blog, and social media channels. As the manager of WEA’s social media presence, I was responsible for introducing and integrating Instagram into daily use, as well as elevating WEA’s presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I maintained a regular social media publishing schedule, proposing and piloting promising campaigns–including crafting content and collateral–that result in lead generation. My goal was to ensure content is creative, compelling and utilizes WEA's unique storytelling framework and gendered lens to inspire people to take action. I also closely monitored WEA’s social media channels and mentions, listening for innovative ways to invite the community deeper into WEA’s work, and nurturing respectful, reciprocal relationships and positioning WEA as a thought leader on women’s environmental leadership. As Programs Manager, I supported the development, sustainability and scaling of WEA's international projects and capacity-building trainings. I also co-designed and managed a multi-year initiative which documented the impacts of extractive industry on Indigenous communities in North America. In this role, I built a strong, collaborative partnership, raised $150K+, conducted research and interviews with members of impacted communities, co-wrote the seminal report and toolkit "Violence on the Land, Violence on our Bodies: Building an Indigenous Response to Environmental Violence", and developed and executed an outreach plan for its 2016 release. -
North America Program CoordinatorWomen'S Earth Alliance Jan 2012 - Jan 2014Berkeley, California, UsAs Coordinator of WEA's North America Program, I oversaw the operation of its central initiative, the Advocacy Network, which mobilizes advocacy resources to protect Indigenous lands from energy exploitation, mining and development; preserve sacred spaces; and support Indigenous grassroots-led renewable energy initiatives. Bringing my own legal background to this role, I facilitated rapid response legal advocacy collaborations among WEA's network of nearly 100 pro bono legal and business advocates and 20+ North American Indigenous organizations and nations. By modeling responsible allyship and reciprocal relationship-building, I sought to ensure women leaders at the helm of the Indigenous environmental movement–and therefore on the frontlines of our most pressing environmental concerns–have unparalleled access to responsive, respectful and expert advocacy support on both a national and international scale. -
