Working with small groups of international experts and 'superforecasters' (i.e. the world's most accurate forecasters) to develop detailed risk assessments and forecasts for the continued development of Artificial Intelligence.

Taipei, Taipei City, Taiwan

Research fellowship awarded by the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to study the Taiwanese Public Sector. Generously hosted during my stay by NTPU.

Projects include: Creating and managing the 'Low Carbon Contestable Fund', efficiently allocating capital to projects delivering emission reductions at lowest (typically negative) cost. Built upon this success to overhaul Council's investment logic along similar cost/benefit lines. Delivered Palmerston North's first fully separated cycleway. Reintroduced the locally extinct toutouwai to the city's forests. Developed a 'sub-national emissions scenario forecasting model', made freely available to dozens of public organisations across the country.

Environmental Strategy and Policy lead for PNCC. Set up and coordinated various community biodiversity efforts. Delivered some of New Zealand's first public sector organisational and regional carbon emission inventories. Community funding board member.

Invited to participate in an experimental risk forecasting 'tournament' sponsored by OpenPhilanthropy.org and run by Prof. Phil Tetlock (of 'superforecasting' fame). Developed (and defended against other global experts) ~70 risk assessments across a range of existential risk categories including: AI, nuclear weapons, climate change, and bioweapons. Recipient of several prizes acknowledging the quality of my work.

Kathmandu, Bāgmatī, Nepal

Worked with local NGO developing a programme of work to rehabilitate Kathmandu's stormwater management system, which had been allowed to atrophy and was coming under increasing pressure due to climate change and an ever-increasing coverage of impervious surfaces due to urbanisation.

Nong Khai, Thailand

Refurbished, managed, and operated a small bar floating on the Mekong River. Cozy spot frequented by locals and tourists alike.

Auckland, New Zealand

Water supply engineer working in the (bulk potable water) Transmission Team. Roles included: administration, modelling, condition assessments, environmental monitoring, and management of small to medium (up to ~$250,000) projects.
