Writing, Filmmaking or Advertising.. I have always been fascinated by storytelling. I like to tell stories. I like to engage people with facts marinated in the interesting spices. My passion for writing found a medium in advertising copywriting when I was in college. So, I joined an advertising agency and my first copy was for a Bajaj 2 Wheeler agency in Kolhapur. I had thought of a particular visual that my boss also liked so much that he stated creating an illustration for the same. I am talking about those days when computers were a luxury for an ad agency in Kolhapur. On the very next day, we saw the similar visual in the newspaper ad by Bajaj. That was the moment when I realised that I could tell stories. My boss also encouraged me and from an unpaid intern, I became a part time employee of Intertrade Advertising. Later when I shifted to Pune, I worked with Pune's oldest agency, Raviraj Publicity, and second oldest, Mona Advertising. After a few years, I left the job and started working as a freelance copywriter. Then I got a chance to work with the agencies like Xebec Communications, Setu Advertising, Inspire Advertising, Juice Adcomm, etc. It was mostly for newspaper ads, brochures, hoardings, etc. By then I didn't know anything about filmmaking and I wanted to take a step further as a screenwriter. So, I thought of doing a workshop in Pune. But when I went there to enquire, there was only Filmmaking course which was due to start with an immediate effect. So, I said why not. Understanding various aspects of filmmaking would help me in writing for films.That was the turning point for my career.I couldn't move Mumbai at that time and Pune didn't provide many opportunities for an aspiring filmmaker. Opportunities were presented themselves and I started making videos for B2B & B2C clients. This way I could always be in touch with the technique. So, I started One MIle Ahead Film with my wife Deepali. She had learned and mastered the art of video editing by then. We did many videos for many clients in Pune. We tried to tell a story even with boring machines. Our work got appreciated.After working for more than 15 years now, I penned advertising & filmmaking together in one book called '7 Steps To Become A Video Content Strategist'. Even today, when it comes to writing, advertising or filmmaking I am totally charged up. Be it a small interview or an ad film or a corporate video, I do it with the same enthusiasm.
