I am very accustomed to flying in an extremely fast paced environment as I’ve been flying out of the busiest heliport on the East Coast since February. Our helipads are surrounded by wires, and I am almost always flying close to max gross weight, so I’m used to keeping my head on a swivel and remaining vigilant when it comes to my surroundings and safety. We also fly within a Class C airspace, so I’m accustomed to communicating with ATC on a regular basis. Flying tours in a busy airspace has boosted my capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, as I’m communicating with ATC, our other aircraft, and my passengers all while safely operating my aircraft.

As the head guide at Winterlake Lodge, a backcountry lodge in a remote part of Alaska, I was extremely focused on customer service. I would guide high paying guests through their entire stay including the planning and execution of all the helicopter accessed activities we offer. In a small lodge setting, I was also happy to chip in with other departments to help keep the lodge running! Besides guiding guests in outdoor settings, duties included housekeeping, lodge maintenance, and sled dog handling.
