About Amra Pajalic
Amra Pajalić is an award-winning author, an editor and teacher who draws on her Bosnian cultural heritage to write own voices stories for young people, who like her, are searching to mediate their identity and take pride in their diverse culture.She won the 2009 Melbourne Prize for Literature's Civic Choice Award for her debut novel The Good Daughter, now re-published as Sabiha's Dilemma (Pishukin Press, 2022). The anthology she co-edited, Growing up Muslim in Australia (Allen and Unwin, 2014), was shortlisted for the 2015 Children's Book Council of the year awards and her memoir Things Nobody Knows But Me (Transit Lounge, 2019) was shortlisted for the 2020 National Biography Award. Her latest book is a short story collection The Cuckoo’s Song (Pishukin Press, 2022). She has had non fiction has been published in Overland, Southerly, The Guardian, SBS Voices and AEU Magazine.Originally a traditionally published award-winning author who has written young adult fiction, memoir and romance novels under pen name Mae Archer, she is now an indie author and managing her own publishing. Amra has also been successful in obtaining funding applications and has been a panel assessor, and is an award-winning short story writer whose writing has been published in anthologies, journals and in online publications.Combining her skills as an English high school teacher and author, she is an official mentor with Writers Victoria (a writing member organisation in Victoria, Australia).
