Dr. Amrendra K. Singh earned his PhD in 2009 from IIT Bombay under the mentorship of Prof. Pradeep Mathur. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded the prestigious Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (SPM) Fellowship by CSIR, New Delhi. From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Ebbe Nordlander at Lund University, Sweden. Subsequently, he undertook another postdoctoral position at Michigan State University, USA, in the lab of Prof. Aaron Odom. In 2016, Dr. Singh joined IIT Indore as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022.Dr. Singh's research group focuses on inorganic and organometallic chemistry, with an emphasis on catalysis. Their current work involves designing novel pincer and N-heterocyclic carbene ligands and their transition metal complexes. These systems are studied for their ability to activate small molecules and facilitate C-H activation and functionalization. Investigations of the fundamental aspects of the reactivity and mechanisms of these complexes to develop innovative solutions for renewable energy and sustainable chemical processes are an important part of our research activities.

This work has led to the synthesis of a rare example of a 4-coordinate Ru(II)-imido complex and its reactivity studies. Study of donor abilities of ligands in high-valent early transition metals using organometallic derivatives of Cr(VI) complexes as models. Currently, I am working on development of catalysts for conversion of ammonia to dinitrogen and dihydrogen in order to use ammonia as a convenient hydrogen storage medium. -
Postdoctoral FellowLund University Mar 2010 - Feb 2012Design and synthesis of new transition metal hydride clusters with chiral phosphine ligands & their applications in asymmetric hydrogenation & hydroformylation reactions. This work provides, for the first time, strong evidence of chiral induction from intact chiral cluster in asymmetric hydrogenation reactions. The diastereomeric pairs of chalcogen-bridged triruthenium hydride clusters with a single enantiomer of diphosphine ligand were shown to exhibit enantioselectivity reversal in catalytic hydrogenation reactions. -
Research AssociateChemistry Department, Iit Bombay Dec 2008 - Feb 2010High yield catalytic synthesis of α,β-vinylesters and alkoxy substituted γ-lactones from acetylenes and alcohols in presence of iron pentacarbonyl and carbon monooxide: A one pot synthesis of ferrocenyl and phenyl based α,β-unsaturated esters, lactone and quinone was demonstrated, through the iron pentacarbonyl assisted photochemical route.
