Project Description: OakNorth is a UK based digital bank for small and medium-sized companies. Its main component is deposits where a retail or corporate can open deposit account and opt for multiple products like fixed term deposit, ISA, Notice Account, Saving account and many more. I worked on various microservices to enable end to end customer experience which includes features related to bank’s customers, their accounts, transactions, operation team's activities, notifications including migration from monolithic to microservices architecture, rebranding, increasing ops efficiency, security and compliance.Responsibilities: - Designed and implemented microservices with proper domain boundaries, ensuring each service handles a specific business capability from existing monolithic codebases. Implemented APIs using Feign client for inter-service communication, ensuring proper versioning and backward compatibility. Introduced new feature reinvestment with a target to retain 75% of existing deposits with the bank itself. Designed and developed new feature that operations team uses to on board new products. It reduced significant manual efforts. Implemented new feature for self-registration to online banking by existing account holders which otherwise being handled by Ops Team. Worked on spring boot version upgrade along with security enhancement. Designed and developed account closure feature which enables customers to close accounts by self. It takes care of multiple business scenarios like eligibility check, full withdrawal, penalty, cancellations of existing pending transactions, notice period. Ops team usually closes around 9k account and takes 600-man hours annually. Followed TDD and pair programming to ensure code quality, validation of the functionality and performance of the microservices. Collaborated with DevOps to create CI/CD pipeline by using GitHub Actions and terraform to build, deploy and infra setup.
