Assisted the Medical Officer of Health (Kingston, Ontario), and Assistant Medical Officer of Health (Kingston, Ontario) on a variety of population health analytic and policy related projects.

Worked closely with Department Managers and with the Chief Dental Officer of Canada, to develop a three year oral health strategy for the most vulnerable populations.

Our main project was a health inequity analysis of the South East LHIN using quantitative research methods (statistical analysis of hospital databases) and qualitative research methods (creating a validated survey instrument, and conducting focus groups and interviews with stakeholders). Research will be used to guide policy decision making in the south east region of Ontario (annual budget of $1.1 billion). Study has identified various primary health care needs, pattern of primary health care utilization, and vulnerable populations in the region. Research has been presented at various research symposiums and will be put forth for publications.

Assisted in the authorship of grants for emergency preparedness and heat related interventions in the City of Toronto. Assisted in the research once grants were secured.

Development and implementation of electronic medical records training systems, as well as evaluation frameworks for the electronic records in aim of improving client access to their primary care provider.

I assisted in ethics approval and collaboration for data collection of a novel surveillance program for the detection and prevention of nosocomial infections, hospitalizations due to illicit drug abuse, hospitalizations due to poisons across Ontario. Project is in collaboration with AMITA Corporation and Defence Research and Development Canada.

Conducted a community health needs assessment to identify present and future health needs of this rural community. I worked closely with different populations (seniors, young families, political figures, and medical professionals) to understand the various health and social needs of residents. Project required both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Based on study recommendations, a medical center was constructed on the Island .

Contributed to a variety of research projects, two of which I had a key role in:• Developed a CIDA grant proposal for maternal and child health program in Bangladesh. Grant was awarded $2.2 million over three years (2012-2015). Program utilizes existing community networks and engages females as important stakeholders. • Examined prevalence of comorbidities amongst mental health patients from southeastern Ontario. The project was part of a larger provincial project that assessed the medical needs of patients with complex mental health conditions.
