• This position combined the management of the site-wide Condition Monitoring program; the management of Statutory Compliance (>2000 items of equipment); technical & reliability support to the asset leaders & maintenance teams for cranes; leading & facilitating failure analysis, investigations & root cause analysis; & general Mechanical Engineering reporting to & filling in for the Senior Mechanical Engineer• My experience as a supervisor includes graduate & undergraduate engineers & extends to contractors & company trades at times. • The graduate rotation through the various areas of the smelter gave me an insight into the range of equipment and the different maintenance strategies required – Carbon, Potlines, Casthouse, Projects, Major Maintenance, budget preparation and an exposure to all elements of maintenance & engineering. Projects undertaken were always of value to the company. • I led a number of Root Cause Analysis sessions from my first year which has included senior management, engineers, operators and trades. Key achievements: Recognition from Senior Management for ‘Objects Falling from Cranes’ prevention program which has since been used elsewhere within Rio Tinto Alcan. Such incidents notably decreased from too frequent to almost zero in 2 years due to trades awareness, skills and maintenance program.  Involvement in an RCM review of Potline Tending Assembly fleet of 23 cranes which has lead to significant improvements in reliability. Early leadership in the roll-out and understanding of the functionality of the ACRA Tool for Major Maintenance budgeting and forward planning. This included reviewing asset requirements and past history records. Leadership of the junior graduate engineers including those from other disciplines.
