I have been fortunate in that these two business areas have been undergoing significant changes as the result of the Affordable Care Act. As a result I have researched and learned about Accountable Care Organizations (ACO), Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMH), Value Based Insurance Design (VBID), Care Collaboration, Payment Models, Care/Case/Disease/Utilization Management to mention some of the more interesting developments in the US health care insurance industry.Architecturally I have focused on creating tangible, outcome oriented deliverables. My goal has always been to create artifacts which not only are understandable, but also actionable. In addition to project and program work I have also lead blueprinting efforts capturing the systems, teams, processes, and information of the Pharmacy, Health Care Services, and Provider Network Management business units. This work has involved capturing current state blueprints and future state blueprints. I also contribute to growing Blue Shield of California's enterprise architecture knowledge, maturity, and capabilities.I consider my greatest success at Blue Shield of California to be the partnership I have built with the business organization and leadership. In the 4 years at McKesson I a covered several roles including technical lead, integration architect, team lead, and solution architect. When I first started at McKesson, they had just deployed webMethods enterprise server, a new enterprise application integration solution. Over the next year this integration platform was expanded to a new pharmaceutical distribution warehouse every two weeks until we reached a total of more than 30. This was an invaluable experience, to learn what it takes to truly harden and stress test an integration platform both from an infrastructure and operational perspective. In the end this integration platform supported 3M business transactions per day, 80 logical integrations, 600 distinct runtime components, supporting supply chain integrations across 30+ warehouses.I supported more than one hundred distinct projects of different scope over three and a half years. I improved our change management and operational processes. I restructured the requirements framework and how we organized our artifacts which allowed our integration team to scale from supporting 20-30 projects per year to 70-80 projects per year.My work at McKesson was not limited to working on their pharmaceutical supply chain integration platform. I designed the IBM Tivoli Monitoring architecture for the McKesson IT organization. I built a new managed file transfer capability based on MetaStorm’s PM4Data and IBM WebSphere MQ and implemented change management, support, and operational processes for the team.My most valuable take away from my McKesson experience was to look beyond just going live to what it takes to deploy effective solutions. What it really takes to make a new capability sustainable within an organization. Show less -
