Growing up in northeast Ohio, many of my early memories were filled with time spent in the Cleveland Metroparks. This early exposure to the natural world led to me being curious about outdoor education from a young age. Climate change and environmental issues have always been at the forefront of my concerns with the world. In high school, I got involved with clubs such as Envirothon and Academic Decathlon where I learned more about what environmental issues were currently hurting Ohio and the planet as a whole at the time. All of this is why I decided on majoring in Environmental engineering at the University of Cincinnati, I want to be able to create remedies to climate change and have a tangible impact on improving the lives of my fellow humans. Spending time at Cleveland's Museum of Natural History and learning small bits of how the natural sciences impacted human life in large ways led to me developing a passion for learning the history of human culture. This has always been a secondary interest of mine outside of traditional science and I personally feel that it is an important thing to learn in order to better understand ourselves today and into the future. Learning where human culture comes from and how humans developed alongside the environment is essential in both garnering empathy for other humans and in seeing the importance that the environment has on human existence. This is why, in addition to my degree in environmental engineering, I am also pursuing a minor in anthropology. At the University of Cincinnati, I have been fortunate in gaining valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and project management, as well as skills using Microsoft Office, VBA, Python, and Matlab. In addition, I have spent over 20 hours volunteering at local parks and with the Mill Creek Alliance to protect biodiversity and the watershed. My practical skills combined with my passion for learning and empathy for others are why I am a strong candidate for an environmental engineering position.
