Looking for a bright, dependable person who is great with details and deadlines and eager for you to achieve maximum results? I can be your secret weapon for a short- or long-term project.I have worked at Playbill (program publisher for Broadway shows and myriad performing arts venues across the US) for 10+ years, moving up the ranks and across departments in the roles of part-time data entry/editor for website listings; full-time proofreader for the Broadway Yearbook series; regional theatre print production coordinator; and as a program editor (InDesign) for out-of-town venues.Even when I'm not officially proofreading, I am a resource for quality control. While packaging advertising and program content for Playbill's printers, I regularly found typos and flagged out-of-date advertising text. I'm the kind of person who double-checks that page numbers in the Table of Contents are accurate. It comes naturally to me, and I've got the sharp eyes and wide general knowledge to do it well. Outside of my 9-5 work at Playbill, I've done extensive research about musical theatre and American Popular Song for books, concerts, documentaries and appraisals. Equally comfortable in archives or online, I love finding out the stories behind the songs. Setting up systems to keep track of content and sources gives me tremendous pleasure. After working as an assistant to renowned historian Robert Kimball on The Complete Lyrics of Irving Berlin, I had the honor of researching and annotating The Complete Lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II (Knopf, 2008), and the delirious pleasure of publicity in the New York Times and on NPR. With British musicologist Dominic McHugh, I was co-editor of The Complete Lyrics of Alan Jay Lerner (Oxford University Press, 2018). The quality of the reports I wrote for the Library of Congress about four filing cabinets worth of Irving Berlin's office correspondence and unpublished songs led to my being hired by the family of the late Broadway composer/lyricist Jonathan Larson (Rent). I went through hundreds of audio tapes and stacks of manila envelopes to build a Filemaker Pro database of details about 50+ theatre, dance and video projects (almost 400 songs) and described them in a catalog of works.ALSO: background research for songwriter tributes in the 92nd Street Y's "Lyrics & Lyricists" series; research for the PBS documentary "Oscar Hammerstein: Out of My Dreams;" fact-checking episodes of PBS's documentary series "Broadway: The American Musical;" basic song copyright research.
