Most all pain is derived from muscle dysfunction caused by unnatural demands of our bodies. Our bodies are designed to move, but in this society, we maintain unnatural posture (computer posture for example) for hours, days, weeks, ...years at a time. This leads to muscle holding patterns that are not conducive to proper blood flow to the muscle tissue. Lower back pain and neck and shoulder pain are prime examples of the repercussions of these holding patterns. Deep tissue massage helps to stretch the individual muscle fibers, muscles, and groups of muscles, allowing the blood to flow through the tissue in a much more optimal manner which in turn carries the necessary oxygen and nutrients to the tissue and ultimately relieves pain. Utilizing proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), trigger point therapy, and positional release helps to open up the communication pathways between the peripheral and central nervous systems once again so that the muscle holding patterns that are causing the pain can be released.
