Amy Cazier Email and Phone Number
I am a recent graduate from Kalamazoo College with a degree in Biology and a concentration in Community and Global Health. Last summer I conducted research for my senior thesis on plant-pollinator interactions and assessing floristic quality of Kalamazoo College's Lillian Anderson Arboretum. My junior year I spent two terms studying abroad in Ecuador through an ecology program focused on the country’s biological and cultural diversity, there I was able to gain hands-on experience in a multitude of environments. Through the advancement of my Spanish, I was able to connect with the communities around me and came to realize that opening oneself to new perspectives is one of the best ways to learn. Throughout my travels, I learned to adapt quickly, and I came to recognize that traveling with work is something I aspire to do.On campus, I pursued my passion for teaching as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for introductory biology classes where I develop worksheets and additional lectures to promote the students’ critical thinking in sessions held outside of class. I enjoy interacting with others and developing relationships, especially when I am in a position where my perspective and knowledge can be helpful, as well as gain insight from others. I am in search of a position where I can gain experience in ecology field research. I am passionate about conservation biology and interested in animal behavior especially in the field of entomology.

Environmental Stewardship FellowKalamazoo College Center For Environmental Stewardship Jun 2019 - Sep 2019Kalamazoo, Michigan, United StatesAssessment of Floristic Quality and Plant-pollinator Interactions at Lillian Anderson ArboretumDeveloped flower and plant-pollinator interaction survey protocols to assess habitat quality before the implementation of a habitat enhancement project. 117 flowering plants were identified 67% of which were native. Floristic quality decreased progressively as areas with a history of increasing disturbance were measured. Areas of higher floristic quality were further indicated to be less tolerant of disturbance with analysis of generalist vs. specialist plant-pollinator networks. Greater care will be taken in the implementation and maintenance of the habitat enhancement project in less tolerant areas.
