Led the design and strategic growth of new, multidisciplinary Center focused on collaborative research and capacity sharing in low-income countries. Directed budget, policy development, operations, and cross-campus funding programs for U-M faculty, staff, and students. Primary roles included: developing international partnerships within the higher education, non-profit, and government sectors; designing experiential learning programs for U-M students in cooperation with our international partner campuses and field sites; building professional staff team and supporting internal and external advisory groups; and expanding philanthropy and outreach for the Center.

Taught EDUC 870: International and Comparative Higher Education; supervised independent studies in international higher education; and served on dissertation committees.

Envisioned and directed the Global Engagement Team, a campus-wide service and consulting group for academic units offering education abroad programs and placements. Supported location-specific platforms for multidisciplinary student and research programs (China, India and Africa-wide initiative). Developed and implemented university policies for education abroad and domestic engaged learning experiences (both academic and co-curricular). Facilitated institutional partnerships and legal agreements and supported the assessment of engaged learning through the U-M Third Century Initiative. Internally, supported the U-M Council on Global Engagement and the International Education Network. Externally, represented the university on key stakeholder groups such as the Global Engineering Educational Exchange, Fulbright National Screening Committee, and the Boren Scholarship Review Committee.

Provided strategic leadership for international partnerships and education abroad program development, both academic and co-curricular. Managed program budgets, created new partnership agreements, and supervised advising and administrative staff. Served as adjunct faculty in Engineering Education and Higher Education and Principal Investigator for State Department Capacity Building Program for U.S. Undergraduate Study Abroad.

Managed four Fulbright Scholarship programs, including screening and selection of European applicants and placement and orientation of American grantees. Advised European students about U.S. higher education opportunities and coordinated outreach to regional universities and secondary schools. Served as a resource for American educators seeking information about European higher education programs, degree equivalencies and accreditation.

Doctoral Student & Research AssociateAugust 2001-January 2005: Based in Brussels, Belgium. Gained knowledge of EU higher education sector and consulted on projects sponsored by Women in Development Europe. Participated in graduate-level study abroad program in the Republic of South Africa. Secured research funding and returned to the RSA to complete dissertation fieldwork. September 2000 - June 2001: Assisted Dr. Donald Heller with policy research funded by the Spencer Foundation. Project title: Reshaping affirmative action: Admissions and financial aid in the post-Hopwood era. Prepared institutional case studies and ran statistical analyses of institutional application and enrollment data. Presented results at academic conferences in Europe and the United States.September 1999 - June 2001: Assisted Dr. Janet Lawrence with the administration of a United States Information Service Newly Independent States College and University Partnership Program. Project title: The democratization of higher education administration in Kyrgyzstan. Organized professional development seminars and program evaluation plan for university staff in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Designed surveys and interview guides for research component of the project. Managed data collection at three Kyrgyz institutions. Designed web site and online catalog for the project’s Higher Education Resource Office.

Managed orientation, support programs and campus events for WMU’s 2000+ international student population. Processed admission applications and assisted students in maintaining F-1 and J-1 visa compliance. Developed WIN: The Western International Network, a peer support program that paired American students with newly admitted international students. Program received national recognition through a NAFSA/USIS Cooperative Grant. Served as advisor to the International Programs Council. Participation increased by 50% and achieved Student Organization of the Year in 1998.

Designed and taught intermediate level reading courses for international graduate student teaching assistants. Co-instructed oral communication skills course for international undergraduate students. Assisted with placement testing and orientation.

Managed placement testing, design and instruction of adult English courses. Developed evening classes for working women and complementary child care program for participants. Offered information sessions on U.S. higher education and admissions requirements.
