I have been working in education since 1989, with students in grades K-12, teaching and creating original curriculum, as well as developing specialized programs in independent study. I have also trained educators in curriculum selection and development, a-g/College Prep course design & alignment, best practices in teaching, developmentally-aligned instruction, Visible Learning, and much more. I have a BA in Literature, with a minor in Sociology of Education, as well as 2 MAEDs. My first MAED was with a liberal arts college and focused on the history, philosophy, and various modalities of teaching and learning. My second MAED focused on curriculum design and implementation, student management, and effective assessments. I hold a CA Multiple-Subject K-8 Teaching Credential and a CA Secondary English Credential. I am in the process of filing for additional credentials: Secondary Social Studies and Administration.I wrote For the Love of Learning, which was published in 2012 and has enjoyed wide success around the US. The book focuses on a foundational education, typically between ages 6 and 14 (K-8) in: fostering a love for learning, building learner confidence, and equipping students with learning strategies that can be applied throughout their entire learning journey in school, work, and life. I spent several years, after the book was released, traveled throughout the US conducting all day seminars based on the approaches described in the book. I founded the largest independent learning center in San Diego, San Diego Liberal Arts Academy, providing academic and enrichment classes to homeschooled and independent study students, and collaborating with multiple charter schools to meet academic requirements for grades 3-12. I have written original curriculum in Literature, Writing, History, and Humanities for grades 3-12, including thematic units and full year courses. I love teaching and training teachers and parents to more actively and effectively engage their students.
