Providing free, confidential, impartial, independent advice to members of the public. Also work to improve the policies and practises that affect people's lives through research and campaigns.

Langwith College Fellows promote the college mission and motto, vincit qui se vincit (in order to conquer, first conquer yourself). In this capacity I am involved with the continuation of a peer mentor scheme I jointly established, and the recruitment of future Welfare Tutors.

College Tutors are student members of the University Staff who live in College and provide a personal face, and first point of contact for other students. I worked as a team to support and develop College activity which brings students together to learn, grow and build a lasting community. Another aspect of this role is to act as a ‘welfare watchdog’: providing support to students who encounter everyday personal difficulties, and playing a key role in identifying more serious issues which may need to be escalated.

On the whole, my placement work with YEDFAS added to the digital content available to the society members. The first output took the form of written responses to the monthly lectures, in which I historically rooted the points made by the speaker, and provided supplementary and counter examples. Such responses had the effect of promoting greater discussion and argument with members of the society, an aspect outlined as lacking by some members who desired a more academic or analytical space.My written work is available to view here: https://yedfas.wordpress.com/lecture-responses-by-amy-white/ The second form of output was a series of filmed interviews with local York artists. Here I was responsible for all related tasks; from the formulation of questions and themes, and conducting of the interview, to the filming and editing of the final footage. I also instigated the creation of a YouTube channel for the society, in order to engage with a popular social media platform and work around the problem of storage space on the original YEDFAS WordPress site.
