On return from parental leave, I have been taking a break from my full time substantive role of Manager, Alumni Relations to take up a part time project manager role, working with both the Alumni Relations and Development teams at the University. Projects include internal process improvement, the development of new programs associated with ECU City, and the running of the ECU Alumni Awards program.

Managing a team of eight, my current role has involved taking the strategic lead in setting up an alumni relations program at ECU, working to reconnect to and engage with a community of 200,000. More recently, I have also taken interim management of our team's prospect researcher, legacy gift fundraiser and scholarship co-ordinator, so have had the opportunity to lead these key advancement services and fundraising areas. My responsibilities include:• Management of a team of eight, plus an ongoing rota of casual staff• Design and implementation of an overall alumni relations strategy for the University, including events, communications and integration with other service centres and Faculties• Creation and implementation of a social media strategy• Design and implementation of an integrated CRM system for the department• Overall management of a series of 15-20 annual events• Design, scheduling and analysis of a series of highly segmented electronic communications• Working with international volunteers to create an international alumni network• Securing new partnerships with external providers for the benefit of ECU alumni• Establishment of a student-alumni mentoring program• Establishment of the Alumni Annual Appeal calling program• Contributing at a strategic level to other University areas, such as alumni involvement in employability and careers-based initiatives• Managing a six-figure budget

Working on the largest capital campaign in the history of the UK’s leading specialist music school, and starting an alumni relations program from scratch, my duties included:• Bids and approaches to trusts and foundations at all levels• Management of high level funder relationships, including the Arts Council• Management and development of the donor pipeline• Development of giving clubs (including Friends scheme) and gift recognition schemes• Organisation of cultivation and stewardship events• Strategic creation of an alumni relations program for the School, including a structured series of communications and engagement events• Prospect research and management• Making approaches to major gift prospects• Set up and management of a bequests program• Database management – adapting the database to better meet fundraising needs• Management of tax-effective giving and fundraising legislation/best practice • Management and set up of processes, such as gift agreements, donor categorisation and income reporting

As part of the alumni and development team at the UK’s second largest University, my role was split between management of the bequest program and major gift fundraising. My responsibilities included:• Management of bequest marketing and communications• Management of bequest recognition program, including the set up of a bequest circle and donor roll• Putting into place new ways of measuring the success of the bequest program• Management of bequest administration, i.e. liaising with solicitors and executors• Management of a prospect pool of over 100 major gift and legacy prospects• Making approaches to cold and warm major gift alumni prospects• Working with alumni relations and annual giving teams to ensure that the bequest message was communicated effectively through all avenues• Working with student callers to assist them in dealing with bequest enquiries as they arise in telephone campaigns
