For the first 5 yrs of my career I had the wonderful opportunity of working on an ACT team (Assertive Community Treatment). I was responsible for helping those with severe mental illness access daily medication support, ensure groceries were in the home, discuss and support thoughts/feelings, advocate for wrap around services, crisis intervention, work with families and group homes to provide ongoing care and support, etc. We worked as an intense team and that opportunity has been a most valued experience as I’ve grown in my career development. After 6 years I changed field direction and went into Alcohol and Drug counseling. I have been doing this for the past 5 years and have been 1 of 5 initial people involved in starting a new and successful treatment facility providing outpatient AoD services and supportive sober living. I have been through yoga instruction and was certified to teach upon completion. Although I have not taken that path professionally, I do personally practice and value sharing with my clients at any opportunity provided. :) I am interested in finding a more holistic approach to recovery and healing as I’m currently navigating through the structured MH and AoD state guidelines and institutions provided.
