Core genomics and microbiology functions at Second Genome. In these roles, I helped researchers with study design for optimal NGS and analysis. I also worked on protocol development, validation, and QC in our genomics pipeline, and assisted in starting a LIMS system and HTP automation workflows. Prior to this role, I was key in developing a soil lab for a novel insecticidals project in collaboration with Bayer. In addition to running enrichment and NGS experiments, my duties in the soil lab included documentation, permit handling, protocol development, managing sample collection and storage, metadata curation and analysis, and training interns and contract employees. Additionally during my time here I have managed in-house microbial strain archives, completed metagenomic and metatranscriptomic studies on clinical stool samples and tissues, established and implemented novel anaerobic microorganism isolation and sequencing projects, worked on protein expression and purification, single-cell isolation protocol development from whole tissues and cell cultures for scRNAseq, and sequencing of viral DNA from phage panning efforts to identify therapeutic peptides from the microbiome.

I helped develop and implement a new high-throughput protocol for yeast colony PCR. This was an essential quality control step for strain engineering efforts at Amyris. As a part of this project, I had the opportunity to test and provide feedback on the development of in-house software and train others in my group to execute the pipeline.
