I have been practicing Occupational Therapy for 11 years. I worked PRN for 5 years including a skilled nursing facility and a hospital setting, for in patient rehab as well as acute treatments. After 5 years, my life took a turn and I went full time at that hospital and recently celebrated my 10 year anniversary. I absolutely love working in rehab. I am so proud of what OT does to help patients reach their independent potential after a hospital admission. I love being creative using my education and my experiences , in life and in my career, to provide client centered interventions to help my patients achieve their goals. Working in OT requires an education and a license, but also compassion, patience, listening and observation skills, flexibility, organization, clinical reasoning, and a desire to keep learning. I am a hands on learner and OT is a perfect fit for me. I always thought I wanted to work in a mental health setting but inpatient rehab is where my heart is!I have been a clinical instructor for many occupational therapy assistant students over the years. I love teaching and demonstrating what OT is and how it changes lives. I’m a wife and mother of 3. I have 2 children in college following their dreams and one still in high school. All of my children know how much my career means to me and my hope for them is to find that for themselves. My family means everything to me and I keep that in mind when I’m working with my patients. I want to help them get home to their families! Everyday life is what makes us all who we are. The simple things in life are the big things and that’s what OT is all about to me. It’s giving people the individualized tools and strategies they need to be able do things for themselves to best of their abilities.
