Year 2 class teacher Moving to a new area with a new role has been a both exciting and challenging in ways I did not anticipate. My Year 2 class teacher role has focussed mainly on ensuring the year group, as a whole, enter the class ready to learn, are understood at an individual level and are inspired to learn in a supportive, caring and consistent environment where their love of both learning and life is fostered. Through meticulous and purposeful lessons, assessment for learning and reflection, of both my own best practice and each child’s progress, planning is considered and augmented to ensure each child meets their own markers and our environment promotes the acquisition and development of their social, emotional and developmental skills, which are fundamental to be a successful adult in our ever-changing and diverse world. I believe this to be a fundamental element of my role to increase ownership and participation, particularly when an additional adult is available, as clear communication is key to ensure individual needs are met, interventions are purposeful along with any misconceptions addressed to encourage future learning. In doing this, I have found our intrinsic motivation, as a class, has grown as well as individual’s confidence which has been a joy to facilitate. As well as being a proactive class teacher, I have lead key initiatives within Geography which has involved collaborating with the senior leadership team, other practitioners and parents/caregivers to ensure each child is being supported and provided with exciting experiences, which link to our local environment to enrich a broad curriculum and provide experiences the children may not have otherwise participated in.
