During my undergrad years at Boston College, I had an enjoyable work-study experience at the John J. Burns Library of Rare Books and Special Collections assisting to catalog collections, create finding aids, and gather items for researchers. Lacking the resources to pursue a master’s degree immediately after graduation, I entered the work force. With each position I’ve had I’ve gained some insight and experience. Upon recognizing that the tasks I most enjoy at my current job involve organizing information, and reflecting on my positive undergraduate work experience, I decided to pursue a Master of Information degree at Rutgers University. The program has helped me to realize interests in cataloging, metadata, stewardship of resources, the intersection of technology and language, issues surrounding access and intellectual freedom, and the situating of information institutions within different cultural and social contexts. I look forward to gaining greater knowledge and experience in these areas.
