Over the course of the past 29 years, I have had the pleasure to experience teaching all levels from first through eighth grades. One of my main focuses with not only my students, but also my colleagues, is to utilize critical thinking skills, communicate, be creative by "thinking outside the box", and collaborate. I often take on the role of facilitator rather than teacher. I challenge my students to take risks and learn about their passions through Genius Hour. This allows students to research a topic of high interest to them, take notes, collaborate with their peers, and design a final presentation to their classmates. Presentations may be something they built or designed, a speech, or a Google Slides presentation. I have also presented about Genius Hour to my colleagues.In addition to being a classroom teacher, I was also a middle school Advisory Coordinator. This position entailed creating team building activities as well as community service projects for teachers to implement with their students. The purpose behind the Advisory Activities was to build a stronger community within each classroom, but also provide the opportunity for students to work together on projects to give back to the community in which they live.
