I enjoy helping designers solve complex design problems relating to the building code. I assist in the delivery of projects to ensure that all people, regardless of age or ability, can enjoy the spaces that designers create. I work both with designers to identify opportunities to improve accessibility and meet code compliance while also consulting externally to businesses and government agencies looking to identify gaps and opportunities to improve accessibility. I am teaching and developing Codes and Regulations II for the Interior Design program with the Academy of Design at RCC. I am working to expand the knowledge base students leave with, giving them confidence in their understanding and application of Building Codes and other regulations impacting the interior design profession.

I worked with inclusive design and accessibility building standards and codes. My focus was to aid in the creation of user-friendly spaces by combining an expertise of building and accessibility codes with architecture and interior design practices. As a member of AccessAbility Advantage, a joint venture between Quadrangle and March of Dimes Canada, I provided accessibility and design consultation for buildings owned and leased by the Government of Ontario. Worked as a senior building code and barrier-free accessibility consultant, specializing in fire-protection, life safety and barrier-free accessibility for new and existing buildings. Projects Include:• Providing support and information to the Accessibility Committee in their creation of the Final Proposed Accessible Built Environment Standard 2010 (AODA)• Auditing and providing recommendations for the Legislative Assembly Building (Queen's Park) of Ontario for complete barrier-free accessibility compliance• Providing feedback to Colleges Ontario on the impact of complying with the final proposed AODA for all college owned and operated buildings in Ontario• Reviewing restrictive design requirements and providing advice to design teams in order to provide full barrier-free accessibility for the Abilities Centre Recreation facility in Whitby, ON• Reviewing proposed urban planning documents and proposed buildings plans in the United Arab Emirates for compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements• Reviewing over 100 retail projects for building code and accessibility compliance including Coach, Lululemon, Aldo, and Bath and Body Works retailers• Reviewing over 100 condominium design development drawings for compliance with the Ontario Building Code, including the following buildings in Toronto: the Thompson Hotel, 650 King Street West, CASA Tower, Charlie Condominium, and 300 Front Street West
