Manage a portfolio of non-profit clients including: the American Immigration Lawyers Association, NALEO Educational Fund, Faith in Action, Asian Americans Advancing Justice, and NAKASEC. Keep abreast of legislation, regulations, policy changes, and intelligence relevant to each client and advise on client response. Write research memos for clients on legal and policy questions relating to proposed legislation and administrative actions.Congressional advocacy: Research and write policy memos for circulation among Democratic Congressional leadership on the interplay between proposed legislation and existing law. Manage all aspects of employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant visa applications, with an emphasis on supporting small businesses, the restaurant industry, nonprofits, pharmaceutical startups, and local farms. Handle family and humanitarian-based cases before USCIS and DOS, with a particular focus on LGBT immigration matters, including affirmative asylum and waivers. Draft and collaborate on motions before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals for detained and non-detained clients. Draft responses to Request for Evidence for a variety of applications before USCIS. Wrote memoranda for OIL and its agency clients on adverse decisions.

Conducted research, wrote, co-authored, and produced reports and blog articles for publication. Planned and coordinated events including the Council’s participation in the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association annual conference, a national convening and reception for academics and practitioners and Congressional briefings. Developed and gave presentations on immigration policy geared towards high school students and young adults. Provided administrative and research support to the policy team.
