Upper School Latin Teacher
CurrentI teach Latin to 8th-10th graders using the reading/natural method in the Oerberg Lingua Latina text complemented by explicit grammar instruction, enriched with elements of spoken and sung Latin. I am also working with the administration team to establish procedure for students new to the school with varying levels of expertise and the high school curriculum plan, including an honors Latin track. In the '23-'24 school year, I developed a Latin IV honors course for juniors titled "Latin with the Founders", which explores the ideas that inspired America's foundational values found in Cicero's De Officiis and De Republica, Seneca's Epistulae Morales, Vergil's Aeneid, and Livy's History of Rome. For the '24-'25 school year, I will be developing a Latin III honors course for sophomores covering the major genres (Poetry, Philosophy (in poetry and prose), Rhetoric, and History). This course will aim to improve the students' reading abilities in authentic Latin while discussing how these different genres convey truth.
