Mission: To educate, inspire and motivate K-8 students through relevant and culturally responsive music-empowered education programming.Schools across America are increasingly asked to do more with less for their students. Sadly, music education is often one of the first programs sacrificed to balance budgets and assuage the increasing demand for more academic testing. Elementary and middle school students are particularly impacted by the loss of school music programs because children need music education in order to develop areas of the brain that not only enhance academic potential, but also promote creativity, social development and self-worth. Enhancing brain development in children at a young age provides them with the tools to fully engage in learning both inside and outside of the classroom. Music Workshop was founded to bridge this gap by creating a music education program that educates, inspires and motivates K-8 students throughout the US. We have developed a free-of-charge, innovative online music curriculum that any school can access regardless of their means, location, or teacher expertise. Our goal is to provide students with a music program that uniquely weaves multiple educational disciplines (e.g. history, math, arts, socioeconomics) into the curriculum. Our aim is to inspire students to appreciate the arts, motivate them to play an instrument and teach them ways to incorporate music into their lives. Music Workshop intentionally exposes students to a broad spectrum of music so they are empowered to choose their own musical paths. Music Workshop is predicated on the ‘open education’ concept: a global movement that brings quality online education to schools and students everywhere, free-of-charge. Currently, our participating schools receive access to 33 online courses focusing on Genres, Instruments, Careers in Music, and Music from Cultures around the World.
