I am a former public school teacher of 13 years, in elementary and middle school science. I enjoy teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in education, including supervising/coaching preservice and inservice teachers. I design, facilitate and research school-based professional development in long-term professional learning communities. My research focuses on the ways in which professional development can support substantive teacher learning, and in turn, student learning. Specifically, I study group discourse in professional development to better understand how that talk mediates teacher learning. I frequently draw on various methods of discourse analysis in this work.
