I love working with people who are stuck. Specifically, people who are struggling with anxiety and/or depression but know that things can be better. Like most everyone, I have personally experienced difficult times in my life. I understand that fear and sadness are legitimate feelings that we all experience. Sometimes we may feel like things are happening in our lives that we don’t have any control over. This may bring about feelings of frustration and anxiety. I assist my clients in gaining insight into the cause of their problems and in doing so, work together at reaching the goals we have set for therapy. I provide my clients with tools to alleviate their symptoms while we are working through the underlying cause. Some of the therapies that I incorporate into my sessions are: EMDR, Prepare/Enrich, CBT and attachment based therapies.I am a Registered Associate, MFT at the Place Within Counseling Center. I work under the Supervision of Gary Henderson, LMFT (#7053) and Krysta Dancy, LMFT (#48056). I earned my master’s degree in psychology in May 2019 from National University. This is a second career for me. After working 24 years as a Claims Specialist for an insurance company, I decided to make a change. I believe that with my background of supporting insurance customers through a difficult situation, as well as my own life’s journey, I have a good foundation for working with clients that are struggling. I have worked with many clients who are dealing with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, extreme stress, PTSD and relationship issues. Everyone struggles at one point or another and I want to eliminate any sense of stigma around seeking help. My own life experiences have afforded me the opportunity to see first-hand how talking to a mental health specialist can help. I interact with my clients in a compassionate, non-judgemental manner while creating a safe environment for them to openly express and explore fears, emotions, and goals. I love sitting with clients in my office, hearing their story for the first time and really seeing them for who they are. I want them to feel loved, valued, and heard. I want to be the person that my clients can be their authentic selves with and know that they will always belong. They know there will be no judgement, only compassion and connection. We work together on gaining insight into their problems and working toward a healthy solution. I am honored to be on their journey, walking with them in their quest for peace in their authentic self.
