This position requires me to conduct research, deliver presentations and liaise with clients to generate skills and enterprise development solutions to address unemployment and create economic opportunities in South Africa. I was required to collect primary and secondary data which involved both desktop research and engaging with key informants in the form of interviews and focus groups. I was responsible for analyzing the data and writing the final research report for the client.

The Settlement Form and Design module is a part of the first year syllabus for the Urban and Regional Planning degree. In this module, students learn how to plan settlements and design urban spaces within from their interpretation of its physical, cultural, social, political and economic context. This is largely the foundation of a planners role and the students will then also learn how to communicate their understanding of the assigned environment through graphics, verbal presentation and writing.In this role I will assist the lecturers in consulting with students and aid students in developing their work and skillset to be able to understand the assigned environments, apply their findings to help them create design solutions and communicate their designs thoroughly.
