I am a public law and regulatory specialist, and act on a range of contentious and advisory work. I act for clients across various sectors including financial services, higher education, local government and health and social care. I regularly act for public bodies, and I advise on decision making, the implementation and application of policy, consultation, and challenges to decisions. I have extensive Judicial Review experience, and I have acted on public law cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.In terms of my higher education experience, I regularly advise on higher education law, with a particular focus on student related issues. I advise on: student complaints and litigation; OIA matters; academic and disciplinary processes; student contracts and consumer law; Equality Act issues; fitness to practise; and the Office for Students’ regulatory framework. I spent 6 months on secondment to the in house legal team at the University of Oxford in 2017/18.My financial services experience includes advising on: the regulatory landscape; internal decision making and the application of rules and policies; public law challenges to decisions; and claims including in respect of fraud, statutory causes of action for failure to follow FCA rules and mis-selling. I have completed two secondments to the in house legal team at the Financial Services Compensation Scheme: one in 2016/17 and the other in 2019.I also act on civil disputes for a variety of clients in the County Court and High Court, as well as on complex multi-jurisdiction disputes. My experience includes acting on a whole range of litigation, from the strike out of vexatious claims brought by litigants in person, through to complex cases involving multiple parties and cross-border issues. For example, I worked within a team acting on behalf of 369 local authorities in response to restitution claims brought by a large number of property search companies, and I also worked on a complex recoveries case involving mis-sold Caribbean properties.
