At work, I like to get things done - and done right. Putting together a to-do list and seeing things crossed off one-by-one is my love language. But good managers and leaders can’t just live by a checklist. Being a strong leader takes effort, a willingness to work alongside your team (not just tell them what to do), and a commitment to lift up team members whenever possible. That's what I've tried to do for the last 13 years as a supervisor and member of the DHS leadership team. Along the way, I not only sharpened my leadership abilities, but also developed strong project management skills and a deep understanding of public policy that I now use daily as the Deputy Director for the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health. Prior to this role, I coordinated large-scale Medicaid projects for the Arkansas Medicaid Director and the DHS Secretary. A few other important things to know about me:• I like to solve problems – and on the flip side, I dislike complaining without trying to find solutions. • I’m comfortable being a part of and advising the C-suite, but just as happy working the signup table at the office conference.• I’m a mom and a Girl Scout Troop leader so managing several big things at once is my superpower.
