I am a passionate and enthusiastic researcher who has been heavily involved in the research and advocacy landscape of student mental health for over 7 years. Through my ongoing work with Student Minds as a student volunteer, content creator and University Mental Health Charter Assessor, and my work within the Student Mental Health Research Network, I have a strong appreciation of the wider context of university mental health and the importance of student voice. During my PhD I have conducted multiple research projects relating to student mental health. My PhD utilises a mixed-methods approach, and for this I have worked with psychometric methods and in-depth interviews, and I am comfortable with various methods of qualitative analysis, primarily thematic analysis, discourse analysis and interpretative repertoires having used them at length within my own research. I understand the importance of research governance, abiding by ethical principles and maintaining confidentiality. I am also skilled in the use of N-Vivo, Microsoft Office and SPSS, and appreciate the need for reflective and reflexive practice in research and professional development.I am highly motivated and can work well under pressure with adaptability, both as part of a team and autonomously. I am comfortable working in an interdisciplinary team, with my PhD supervision team including specialists in qualitative methods and epidemiology. Additionally, my work on the SMaRteN funded research project ‘Who Cares’ utilises a psychology, education, and health sciences team. Through my various representative roles, I have also developed my negotiation skills, and the ability to problem solve and engage multiple parties in discussion and solution building. I also utilise these skills in my teaching of undergraduate and Masters students, refining my feedback skills and providing pastoral and academic support, as well as when working as a trained Peer Assisted Learning Mentor.I am comfortable presenting and disseminating research in a number of formats, from traditional conference presentations and academic journals to podcasts and infographics. I am also experienced in utilising social media for recruitment and dissemination, managing twitter accounts for projects and using platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn in various capacities through my volunteer work and personal academic journey.

Student ResearchersThe British Psychological Society Jun 2013 - Sep 2013Keele, England, United KingdomI was awarded one of twelve Undergraduate Research Assistantship grants from the British Psychological Society, following a successful funding application with Dr Richard Stephens. I was responsible for preparing a research proposal, reviewing the literature, recruiting and testing of the participants, analysis of the data and aiding in the production of the now published research paper. This gave me my first experience of being fully responsible for data collection and running laboratory experiments. As part of my Research Assistantship, I supervised an A Level psychology student for a day of their work experience. During this time, we worked on developing their understanding of data handling, research ethics and preparing data for analysis. I presented this research at the BPS conference in 2014 in poster format. Stephens, R., & Zile, A. (2017). Does Emotional Arousal Influence Swearing Fluency?.
