At the library, one of my essential duties is providing reference and research assistance to our patrons. Whether a person is seeking a particular novel, books by a specific author, a genre they like, or need literature on a certain subject matter, I can help them find it. The other essential function of my position is developing and implementing educational, interactive programs that promote literacy. This includes putting together book displays that highlight and cater to interests in certain literary genres. For literary events, it comprises developing interactive activities for families that are creative and fun. Literary events are a way of providing a tangible lure for the wonderful worlds to be found through stories and literature. I am also responsible for the creation of Storytimes that promote early literacy in children. We use rhyme, music, and picture books to involve children and their parents in the educational and joyful process of learning to read, knowledge acquisition, and active listening. I officially manage our teen volunteers at the library. I regulate their application process, write their schedule, and monitor their hours, however they are responsible for documenting their hours volunteered. In turn, the teens learn about the ins and outs of the library system, and assist in the sorting department. They also help prepare for special programs, as well as supervise the subsequent activities. Teens also have the opportunity to develop and implement their own programs at the library based on their interests and talents.
