Jacobs serves a broad range of companies around the world, including industrial, commercial, and government clients across multiple markets and geographies.My adventurous spirit led me to pursue a position overseas in the UK. Jacobs Engineering had set out to establish a hydraulics department and I eagerly joined the team as a project engineer. In addition to constantly translating measurements into metric- which exercised my critical thinking skills daily, one of my greatest accomplishments while in Cardiff was to conduct a flood study in a small town that involved gathering in-depth historical data from local residents. Because technical modeling can only take you so far, this hydrologic study required direct communications with the public, which meant I had to establish trust and present the purpose of the study in a way that convinced the locals to open up about their lives and experiences. I found ways to connect with these people, and before long, the residents invited me in for tea, voluntarily sharing information that was important for our study. My efforts in gathering this critical data resulted in an in-depth flood study, including analysis of bridge crossings that were over 100 years old. This study was to be used later to develop drainage improvements in the area.

Environmental Quality Resources (EQR), LLC, is an environmental design and construction firm that specializes in stream restoration, wetlands management, storm water retrofits, Low Impact Development (LID) and green roof installation.I took on the role of Project Manager, eager to both progress into management and champion the cause of environmental stewardship. This company allowed me to lead a team while delving into the cutting edge realm of stream restoration. In this hands-on role, I developed strategies for completing projects efficiently, effectively, and on budget. Overseeing several projects, I coordinated teams of engineers, biologists and landscape architects to work alongside one and other. To do so, I developed strong communication skills to ensure that information was translated and flowed smoothly. This kept everyone on track and informed and allowed us to meet benchmarks along the way to achieving our common goals.

Site Solutions, Inc., provides engineering consulting services such as land planning and zoning analysis, forest conservation inventory, analysis and design, water and sewer design, landscape architecture, storm water management, sediment and erosion control design, roadway design, site planning, and land surveying to land developers, governments and individual property owners in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. I was recruited into this small firm as a project engineer to run land development projects independently. I continued to build upon my mastery of AutoCAD, TR-55, TR-20, and HEC-RAS as my position progressed. With more responsibility in this close-knit environment, I was also able to enhance the practical budgeting and scheduling skills I’d already developed, as well as getting the chance to develop leadership skills that I would eventually carry with me into my next role.

I used AutoCad, TR-55,TR-20, and HEC-RAS regularly to execute plans.In this role, I developed a deep interest in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering projects. In particular, I was drawn to stormwater management because of how it affects communities. My position presented an ideal opportunity to delve into this specialty because of Maryland’s rich, complex system of waterways. Eager to take on more responsibility as I gained expertise, I joined some colleagues as they launched their own firm and invited me to run projects for them on my own.
