Amy Heitzman, Ph.D., serves as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Learning Officer for UPCEA. As Deputy, Amy manages the delivery of organizational and departmental strategic planning and production. Amy oversees budget development, content delivery, and member engagement for the association’s growing program portfolio and convenes the staff on numerous initiatives for cross-divisional collaboration. She guides UPCEA’s international partnerships and external relations strategies, and stewards UPCEA’s grant and foundation relationships.In her ongoing work as Chief Learning Officer, Amy leads the association’s strategy and deployment for member professional development, which includes continued support for the association’s two certificate programs and course constellation, its multiple volunteer leadership structures, several board-designated committees, is the Managing Director for the Council for Credential Innovation, and is Ex Officio on the Council for Chief Online Leadership Officers. Prior to joining UPCEA, Amy served as the inaugural Executive Director of Continuing and Professional Education at Southern Methodist University (SMU), directing a new strategic vision for professional and continuing education for the institution, doubling the number of programs offered and students served, and increasing the university’s capacity to engage with its community more deeply. While at SMU, Amy served in various leadership roles including board membership in the SMU Staff Association and the Hegi Family Career Center as well as an appointed member for the Presidential Council for Community Engagement, and the Faculty and Staff Committee of the Second Century Capital Campaign. Amy holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.Ed. (SMU), an A.M. (University of Chicago), and a B.A. (University of Michigan). She also holds graduate certificates in Nonprofit Leadership, Marketing, Master Technology Teacher, and Women and Gender Studies. Amy has served terms on the UPCEA Board of Directors, the InsideTrack National Advisory Board, the George W. Bush Institute’s Military Service Institute Task Force, and the Higher Education Advisory Group of Credential Engine. She continues to serve as a reviewer for the Chief Learning Officer LearningElite program, the Student Veterans of America National Conference, and the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) Annual Conference.
