Profile bio

About Amy Cook, Phd

I am an experienced professional currently serving as the Senior Director of Research and Operational Initiatives at CIFAR. In this role, I lead a subset of the Institute's research program portfolio, helping them to develop and implement their research impact agendas, and implement initiatives to enhance the institute’s capabilities and systems in support of CIFAR's new strategy. Previous to this role, I worked with a talented team to advance the societal impact of CIFAR’s multidisciplinary research programs. I believe that by uniting diverse perspectives and expertise, we can develop creative new solutions and knowledge that would not emerge if each sector were tackling issues in their own individual way. I am a trusted and motivational leader that delivers with the highest quality. I embrace a culture of respect, collaboration, experimentation, and learning when working both with colleagues and with organizational partners. I have a passion for all things science and a deep expertise and interest in strategic planning, research and impact program development, project management, facilitating knowledge exchange, and performance measurement and evaluation. Prior to CIFAR, I served as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation where I led the administration of the Ontario Research Fund Research Excellence (ORF-RE) granting program and played a lead role in developing the youth innovation outreach strategy. A trained scientist, I received my PhD in Oncology from Western University. I am excited to continue leveraging my skills and expertise to drive positive change and create meaningful impact in the realms of research, innovation and higher learning.
