I have been tinkering with software since I was five years old. When I was told that my favorite, pink floating cat Mew was attainable in my Pokémon Blue version, I was determined to make it happen. I heard that a certain glitch could render unexpected Pokémon, and decided to try to exploit it. I performed the steps of the famous “MISSINGNO.” glitch and was greeted by a garbled sprite, 8-bit screeches, and a corrupted save file. I was terrified, but more than that, I was fascinated. How did that work? Why did the game do that? I wanted answers. Fast forward a few years, I was desperately trying to convince my parents to purchase a new computer through persuasive essays conveniently placed on the kitchen table. My pleas were ignored, as they suspected I broke the current PC by deleting the Kernel32 file (to clarify, I did not “delete” it, I just tried to open it and see what was inside). Technology was the thing (to my parents' dismay) that I could not stop talking about. Outside of hacking into games or ranting about computers, I enjoyed writing stories. The act of creating something with the clatter of keyboard keys fueled my inner fire. But when I finally tried to write my first book, I found myself bored with the thought of reading it. I realized I did not want someone to just read what I wrote – I wanted them to experience it. I saw my interests as distinctly separate, until I discovered the “MISSINGNO.” between – writing software. Fueled by the desire to create a more interactive story, I downloaded GameMaker Studio 2 and coded my first asteroid shooter game. I became completely hooked, and since then, my insatiable appetite for learning, coding, and problem solving has only grown. I joined an intensive boot camp program learning JavaScript, React, Express, Node, HTML/CSS, SQL, and MongoDB, utilizing TDD and agile practices. As an Associate Software Engineer at Travelers, I focused on creating new and innovative solutions for Claim, while paving the way to the AWS Cloud. Currently I am a Software Engineer for restor3d, and I am grateful to be learning every day.Outside of work, I enjoy coding Discord bots, building PC’s and mechanical keyboards, playing Animal Crossing and (of course) Pokémon. If you want to chat, feel welcome to reach out to me!
