Summer fellowship program funded by the Amgen Foundation; 4% acceptance rate. Working in Dr. Henry Lester's laboratory, I developed skills in microscopy on live cells in neuroscience. Using a mammalian cell model, I conducted FRET experiments to investigate the effect of nicotine on interactions between RIC-3 protein and subunits of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. The program culminated with a final research paper, 20-minute oral presentation at Caltech's Fall Seminar Day, and the national Amgen Scholar Conference at UCLA.
