Amy joined the staff of Gorilla Doctors in February 2019, after first serving as a member of Gorilla Doctors’ Board of Directors. She is responsible for strategy and implementation across all marketing, communications and promotional activities of the organization. Gorilla Doctors is the only organization dedicated to providing life-saving veterinary care to mountain and Grauer's gorillas, in the wild, in Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo.

Continuation and evolution of work that began during the COVID Communications Task Force. Worked directly with Executive Director to implement strategic plan while building new partnerships.

In role as CMO with Gorilla Doctors, joined a communications focused task force for the One Health Institute at the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine to support a new level of international attention. Coordinated and managed a high volume of media inquiries, helped position scientists as leading voices in explaining emerging infectious disease, translated scientific research publications for mainstream audiences, produced content and coordinated with multiple departments across campus. Temporary position became permanent in March 2021.

Designed and taught summer course 'Communicating for Impact' for the Master's in Global Communications program at AUP. Course description: Global communications are at a crossroads. We face multiple concurrent crises such as civil conflict, climate change, and widening disparities requiring urgent attention and action. At the same time, the environment in which communicators must operate in and adapt to is complex, dynamic, and crowded. So, where do we begin? The only place we can – with ourselves – recognizing the power and responsibility we carry as stewards of truth and then leveraging our skills for the collective good. Using real-world case studies we will examine the challenges of communications as well as the opportunities for practical tools to impact outcomes. We will also explore our personal responsibility as communicators through the following topics - ethical communications, decolonizing communications, the role of emotional intelligence, and looking to non-traditional sources for inspiration. Participants will learn through facilitated discussions, assignments, and interactive exercises while also engaging with guest experts across multiple fields.

After 15+ years traveling and working in East Africa, the intrinsic connection between economic impoverishment and threats to wildlife was clear. Took a market-based approach and built a company partnering with artists in East Africa to support alternative livelihoods and wildlife conservation by expanding market access for their handcrafts in the U.S. and online. Provided training, supplies, small grants and income for nearly 100 artisans, mostly women otherwise dependent on subsistence agriculture. Partnered with Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT) in Uganda to find artisan cooperatives living adjacent to privately-owned forest that served as corridors for chimpanzees (Hoima district). As a result of Lucy & Jo purchases Kyamaleera Women’s Cooperative in Uganda (40 women) started their own savings and micro-loan program allowing younger members of the group to grow into leadership positions and others to start small businesses.

Innovate+Educate is a national non-profit organization implementing research-based strategies to close the skills gap and bridge the opportunity divide. Focused on total systemic transformation from education to employment through research, implementation of programs and national movement building. Role as CSO was to guide the overall strategic direction of the organization from idea to full completion, including grant-writing and fundraising.

Worked closely with CEO and Innovate+Educate team to direct the overall brand and communications strategy helping the organization grow from a state-based non-profit into a leading national organization.
